Eco Committee

Eco Committee 2012 – 2013

We were thrilled to see how many children applied to become representatives this year on the Eco Police… it wasn’t an easy job to find our ten greenest and most enthusiastic children! We have however now selected our Eco-Police and already they are setting to work and having a great impact on our school.

In September, Mrs Day did an assembly about all the achievements of the committee last year – some of the highlights included:

  • The Walking Bus Loyalty Card – an innovative idea from one of our Year Six children! The introduction of the loyalty card saw our weekly passengers increasing from on average eight children to nearly fifty!
  • The Big Tidy Up – our annual event was this year held on a blustery day in June. Everyone rolled up their sleeves and got stuck in to helping tidy up not only our school grounds but also the village!
  • The Healthy Eating Tuck Shop – this proved very popular with our KS2 children who queued patiently every playtime to purchase from our shop- fruit salads, slices of melon, bear winders and much, much more!
  • BPS Tree Nursery – we dug up the trees we’d looked after for two years which were rehomed at Chidham Copse and planted fifty new trees which we will care for until 2014.
  • Eco Club – was back by popular demand! Twenty children (and a long waiting list!) formed our after school eco-club and we busily set about planting, tidying, designing and much more!
  • Gardening GLO – our gardeners designed the new eco-garden with the help of a landscape architect and put the plans into place with Garden Karma.
  • OUR THIRD GREEN FLAG – the inspector visited and asked us lots of questions about the work we do. We were thrilled to be awarded with the renewal of our green flag and it can be seen proudly flying at the front of the school.

The year ahead promises to be just as jam packed and busy! We have already completed our environmental review and the next time we meet, we will be writing our action plan for the year ahead. We are thrilled to have been joined by Jill who is George’s mum in Year 5 who is a parent representative on the committee and our new premises officer, Mr Goom.
