The Enchanted Elephant | Story.com

The Elephants Spell

In the small, cosy village of Carlotta, there lived a girl called Marigold, who had obsidian-black hair and shining amber eyes. She was a girl who found joy in everything; from watching a beautiful sunset to doing exams at school. But if there was one thing that could always put a smile on her face, it was Prata.

Prata was a Violet-River elephant who lived within the magnificent Carlotta Zoo, attracting the love of amazed tourists with her beautiful amethyst complexion and elegance. Marigold lived in a little cottage next door – her dad was the head zookeeper – and she would visit Prata every day after school. There was a special bond between them, something deeper than friendship.  But one day, this entwined them a bit too closely.

It was a beautiful afternoon; the sky was crystal-clear and the colour of polished sapphires, the sun shining upon everything in sight. It was magical. Marigold walked up to Prata’s enclosure, gazing into her loving eyes. She felt a shiver run down her spine. Marigold placed one hand on Prata’s wrinkled forehead. Her hands started to tingle, and soon she was paralysed. Emerald sparks shot from the tips of her fingers, but when she tried to pull her hand away, an invisible force was holding her back. She felt her vision slipping away, the world she had always known fading….

Marigold sat up, gasping. It was night-time, and the moon cast a ghostly glow over everything. What had happened? She tried to stand up, leaning against the metal bars for support.

Wait.

Metal bars?

Her limbs felt large, heavy, skin sagging but comfortable. But when she looked down, she knew something was wrong. She had no hands. Instead, four ivory hooves stood shakily on the ground.

She couldn’t be.

She looked up, gazing into the eyes of a confused Marigold, who was making hollow trumpeting noises. She felt fear engulf her in a storm of tangled blackness, consuming all the good thoughts in her mind.

It was Prata.

Marigold realised, with a rush of disbelief, that they had swapped bodies. Marigold was now the elephant, and Prata was the human.

The next day, Simon - Marigold’s best friend - visited the zoo. He had noticed something strange about her at school; she was extremely quiet and kept making odd noises. He realised he had to help reverse her.

Simon persuaded his parents to take him to the British Library, where he discovered several ancient volumes on transformation and sorcery. He brought the books back to Carlotta Zoo, where he found Marigold waiting. She was so eager to be herself again, but when Simon opened the spellbook and started chanting in a melodic tongue, she asked him to stop. She realised she enjoyed being an elephant; she loved the Keepers with all her heart. She realised Prata had also come to love the life of a human.

So Marigold stayed an elephant, and Prata a human. They both lived long, fruitful lives.

The Wonderful World of Magic

As soon as I got home from school I rushed into my room and saw my rainbow coloured things. Suddenly my brother Max jumped out at me and shouted BOO! He was only two, so I said arrhh you scared me a lot and I picked him up and looked at my watch and realised it was 9 o'clock at night. I took him into his space themed room and tucked him in his rocket bed.
I tiptoed past my big sister, Sophia's room, but I was too loud and she came out and said "Hello, Hopey-Dopey". I replied, " I told you before, my name is Hope!!", "Whatever", she said. I ran back to my room, checking on my little sister, Chloe, on my way.

At midnight, I woke and was thirsty. I grabbed a glass of water, from the tap, in my rainbow cup. As I was getting back into bed, I saw a glowing door above my head. I climbed up to take a closer look.

I suddenly had an urge to open the door, so I bravely reached for the handle. I pulled hard and when I looked inside there was some sort of whirlpool. It had pink, gold, blue and purple swirling colours, going round and round. I turned and saw my younger siblings behind me, they grabbed me from behind and we fell forwards through the door, into the whirlpool.
We all screamed as we fell down and landed on something bouncy. It turns out it was a massive marshmallow! We stopped an ate some, before exploring further. We started walking and saw a chocolate river. We stopped and used a tasty buttercup to scoop up the chocolate drink, it was delicious! We all enjoyed it and drunk until we felt slightly sick!

We continued to explore and saw a person. She said "Hello, my name is Clarissa! Are you lost?" I said "Yes...well kind of, we don't even know where we are or even what planet we are on!" Clarissa looked surprised and replied "What??!! You don't know that you are in Candy Land!" We all looked at each other and smiled! Clarissa smiled back at us and said " Follow me, I will show you around!"

We explored with Clarissa as our guide. We arrived in the town square, where we met Gingerbread people, saw candyfloss trees, gummy bear lights and then it started to rain gum drops! The rain was delightful!

Max and Chloe started to yawn, so we said thank you and goodbye to everyone. We made our way back to the whirlpool with Clarissa.
We jumped back through the swirling colours and landed on my bed. When we got back we tried to get everyone back to their rooms without waking Sophia but we were to loud. She walked to her door and said "What are you doing!"
We laughed, looked at each other and said, "You would never believe us if we told you!"

Honey's Big Adventure

Once upon a time, under a shady tree, there was a box with five tiny puppies.

Four of them were sold on the very same day — but one little puppy, named Honey, was left behind.

Honey waited patiently for someone to choose him. But the next morning, something strange happened. The wind began to blow harder and harder… until whoosh! The box lifted into the air, carrying Honey away!

He flew over lakes, seas, and wide green fields, until bump! the box landed in a place full of cottages and castles. Honey looked around and realized — he was in Victorian times!

“That’s enough!” she said firmly. “Leave the poor puppy alone!”

The boy ran off, and Indi smiled at Honey. But before she could take him home, dark clouds rolled in. Rain poured down, and a strong wind blew through the streets. Indi ran for shelter and disappeared into the storm, leaving Honey all alone.

Shivering and soaked, Honey looked for a dry place to hide. He found a spot under a bridge — but the rain came faster and harder. Soon, the water rose and the bridge began to flood! Honey had to paddle for his life through the cold, muddy water.

People passed by, but no one stopped to help the little wet puppy struggling to stay afloat. Then, a group of children saw him.

Honey wandered off and found himself in a small market. He was so hungry that he took a sausage from a shop display. But just as he bit into it…

He woke up!

Honey blinked and looked around. He was back in the box under the tree at the market. It had all been a dream!

Far away, the young teacher — Mr. Thompson — woke up too. He rubbed his eyes and thought, What a strange dream. Maybe I should get a puppy.

Later that day, Mr. Thompson went to the market to buy some sausages for dinner. As he walked past a tree, he saw a box. Inside was a little puppy who looked exactly like the one from his dream.

Mr. Thompson smiled. “Hello, Honey,” he said softly.

From that day on, Honey and Mr. Thompson lived happily together. They were the best of friends — in dreams and in real life.

The Wild

One day, a boy named Jack was getting ready for school. Jack was nervous, it was his first day at his new high school and he didn't know the way there. After getting dressed, he had breakfast and wondered if he was going to make new friends. Jack was still thinking to himself as he said goodbye to his Mum and Dad and set off to school, not knowing what adventures lay ahead.

Jack was so busy thinking that he suddenly realised he was lost. Jack sat down to decide what he was going to do next. Jack heard a noise behind him. He looked around and spotted a path and was curious to know where it led. At the end of the path there was a door, an old, wooden door with lots of bright colours shining behind it. Jack couldn't resist and he opened the door, the door made a horrible noise like a screeching child. Jack covered his ears and stepped inside, closing the door behind him. The screeching stopped and bright colours beamed like the sun but suddenly they started to fade, and a mysterious, gloomy mist appeared. Jack continued walking through the mist, reaching his hands out in front of him and he realised he was in The Wild, somewhere he had only imagined.

The Wild was a rainy, green place where monkeys swung high, alligators swum low, water hogs rolled in the mud and parrots sang in harmony. As Jack walked, he had a suspicious feeling that a something creepy was watching him. Jack tried not to be frightened but he had used up all his energy, so he stopped to rest by a tree. Jack felt cold so he snuggled into his coat and rested. Just then, he heard a rustling behind him and jumped up in fear. As he looked into the gloom, out jumped a hedgehog making Jack scream so loudly it made the ground rumble. The rumbling frightened the hedgehog, and it shivered. A little, squeaky voice came from the hedgehog "Please Jack, don't scream so loudly, I am here to help. My name is Harry" the hedgehog said smiling. Jack picked up Harry and put him on his shoulder. Jack thought if he didn't make friends at school, he could be friends with Harry instead!

Jack and Harry sat under a tree and Jack fed Harry golden acorns that had fallen from the magnificent oak tree that towered above them. Jack was exhausted from all the excitement and just for a moment he closed his eyes.

"Jack, Jack wake up, you're going to be late for your first day at school". Jack realised his Mum was shouting and he was still in bed. His adventure to The Wild with his friend Harry must have been a dream. Jack leapt out of bed and quickly got dressed. But he didn't notice the little golden acorn that fell out of his pyjama pocket and under his bed…

The Magical Book

One day on June the third a girl was born, she was named Emma. She was an ordinary child who loved music, gymnastics and art but the thing she loved the most were her books. Every night, every day, every second she had her head tucked inside a book and very tightly!

Emma was in her favourite place in the whole, wide, world, the local library when she came across a story that had no name, no pictures, nothing? She was about to put the book back when a lady who worked there quietly said “Oh that’s a lovely book. I read it once, you should get it”, “Okay” Emma said quickly, trying not to sound rude.

When she got home Emma’s dog Honey started jumping and barking but not angrily, nervously. What was Honey scared of? She was puzzled until she looked on the table to her left and burst out laughing. Her mum, who was cooking shouted “What on earth are you doing?” “Nothing” she said as she grabbed a teddy of the table and gave it to Honey. Emma swiftly bolted up the stairs on all fours mirroring honey.

When she made it to her room she flopped on to her bed before sitting up and opening the book. Honey snuggled up next to her and she began to read. In an hour Emma had finished two chapters. She was about to start chapter three when the ground started to shake, suddenly a stop-watch appeared in her hand. She squinted her eyes looking at it in surprise and realised it didn’t have minutes or hours, it had years. Unknowingly the watch turned to the 1900’s where the book was set. “Ok, ok this is fine” she said to Honey, but in the corner of her eye Emma saw her pale purple wallpaper was turning orange. Then realised she was wearing a neon green bucket-hat! Emma froze, petrified but quickly she came to her senses and realised she must be in the book. The stop watch was still in her hand so being the clever child she was, turned the watch to 2025. The ground shook once more…now back in her, room no orange wallpaper no bucket-hat.

She turned to the book and started talking to it saying, “Well maybe I can ask my mum to buy you and I can go into the book again so I will have a wonderful secret with you”.  Emma imagined being trapped in the book and shivered with both fear and excitement.

After she had asked her mum, who thankfully agreed, they went back to the library and paid. Emma went up to her room and straight away went right back into the book.

Emma has been going in and out of the book for a year now but who knows if she will ever get trapped?

Forest friends and a Bad Plan Adventure

Once upon a time, there were three animals, a fox, a rabbit, a robin. One day, Fox said “I’m bored, do you know what to do?” looking at Rabbit. “No” replied Rabbit. “What about you Robin?” Robin remained still, perching on the branch while Fox and Rabbit lay in the fresh grass. “I’ve got an idea!” chirped Robin out of nowhere. “Really? Let’s hear it.” said Rabbit intrigued. “Let’s see Cat!”, answered Robin. Fox’s eyes widened in response to what Robin had said. “You mean Black Cat?!” said Fox with surprisment in her eyes. “Yeah!” Robin said, staying in her normal, non-worried, jolly spirit. “Guess that’s not a too-bad idea.” replied Rabbit. Fox closed her eyes tightly and did a small shudder, shaking her concerned thoughts out of her head. Once she had got the thoughts out of her head and opened her eyes she said “Not a bad idea? it’s a really bad idea!” Rabbit and Robbin didn’t hear Fox because they had already started walking along the narrow path that led towards the village. Fox dragged her paws behind them, looked down at the path and thought to herself what are they thinking? Once they got to Black Cat, the three forest creatures faced her. Fox, Rabbit and Robin realised they were on a dusty, small cliff that separated the village and the forest. “Hello” said the Black Cat mysteriously, as Fox backed out of the conversation. “Hi!” Robin chirped back. “Why do I find you here?” questioned Black Cat. “We were bored so we came to see you” replied Rabbit. “Well how pleasant” said Black Cat smirking.

She stretched out her claws, and they slowly sank back in. Robin looked back at Fox and Rabbit who were whispering. Fox winked at Robin meaning they had a plan, just in case. “Oh, um Black Cat sorry to interrupt but can I have permission to speak?” interrupted Rabbit “of course” said Black Cat gently. “We were wondering if our friend Hedgehog could meet you because she doesn’t like missing out.” “Yes” said Black Cat quickly without hesitation. “I’ll go get her!” exclaimed Fox, instantly running to get Hedgehog. Black Cat with the lack of luck she had. With only two left, this was going to be as easy as pie. While Fox was gone, a sense of unease came over Rabbit and Robin. Whilst having their conversation with Black Cat, this feeling was growing into regret about their plan to come here. Just before Fox and Hedgehog returned, Black Cat stretched all the way back with her arms straightened in front of her. Suddenly, Black cat pounced towards Robin. “Watch out!” cried Rabbit. Robin swooped out of the way just in time for Black Cat to land on hedgehog’s spikes. Black Cat cried in pain and ran away. When night came, the forest friends celebrated with a big party, happy that they will never see Black Cat again.

The Search for a Zebra

Once aponer time there lived a lion called James. He was very hungry, not just hungry but very, very hungry. He thought he saw a zebra, but it was actually trees in the distance and they looked like black triangles in the sunlight. Slowly and sadly he started to walk and walk in the burning sun. Once he had walked 4 miles he got to a splendid pool, and he had a wash. When he got out of it, it was late, so he decided to go to snuggle up on the floor to go to bed.

The next morning it was blazing hot but he carried on prowling across the savannah. There were tall trees swaying in the breeze and he saw a gigantic pool. He hoped a zebra would come up to the water to have a drink. But instead, as quick as a crocerdile’s snap, a hippo leeped out of the pool and James was speechless. James thought the hippo was rilly angry. The hippo made a huge splash. James left because he was terriffied of the hippo.

James was extrordanarily hungry so he ploded on. He saw the blue sea on the horizon. He stumbled the last few steps to the sea. When he got to the sea, he stood on the edge of the land but suddenly it cracked and he started to float away.

It started to get colder and colder until it got freezing cold. A drop of coldness came down his spine and he shivered. In the distance he saw a strange country that was really white. James saw thousands of black and white things which were wodderling on the ice. He was hungry so he got excited and he thought those were zebras. He climed up the iceberg and raced towards the zebras. His face dropped in sadness because they were not zebras - they were penguins!

He swam back towards Africa to find a delicious zebra because he was starving. When he got back to the savannah as quick as lightning he saw a zebra sprinting away. James jumped on the zebra and gobbled it up. He yawned joyfully and felt stuffed. James lived happily ever after, but the zebra didn’t.

Six Secret Lives

Part One

As dawn broke over Madrid, Amber and Ember scurried into an alleyway concealed from the sun. The two cats saw a flash of movement in the shadows. "Pepper! Your so easy to see even though your black" laughed Ember. Then another black cat appeared beside Pepper. "Ebony, nice to see you too" smiled Ember (Amber had mumbled Hi Eby).

"Let's go into the den" said Pepper. (The den was the cellar of an old warehouse who's entrance was blocked by a lot of heavy crates.) The other cats agreed. Once they were inside the den they saw that James (a tabby) had prepared supper for five. "Where's Esha?" asked Amber. "Missin'" replied James "No seriously where is she" I dun' know really I don' "He's right we don't know, Amber" said Ebony softly. "Now lets get some sleep".

When they awoke both James and Ebony had vanished into thin air, but the only clue was a few scratch marks and a piece of sacking with an address in North Madrid. Pepper had said "I feel like this has something to do with Esha!

Part Two

On the other side of Madrid three cats one snowy white, one a tabby and one a pure black stared helplessly at the horrifying figure before them. A Catnapper. The man/Catnapper had said well, perhaps we should move this one into the cellar (here he had prodded Esha in the stomach). Once Esha had been brought down to the cellar the man left for Belgium.

Back at the den, the remaining cats (Pepper Ember and Amber) were having a small conversation which went something like this:

Amber: any ideas on where those three are?

Pepper: Maybe that old warehouse in North Madrid?

Ember: Then let's go find them!

Pepper + Amber: Lets!

As darkness fell over Madrid, the  desperate cats set out. The rescue party climbed onto a bus that travelled to North Madrid. They arrived just down the lane from the old warehouse where the lost cats were held. They scaled the building, fell down the chimney (that turned them all black) and hid in case anyone saw them. They hid for an hour but there was no sound at all, so they crept onward to find there friends. After five minutes, they reached a room with...James and Ebony inside! Ebony was pacing up and down but James was asleep, that is, until Ebony shook him awake saying "wake up there here!" Once James was awake Pepper asked where's Esha? In the celler, ansawed James. I'll pop down and get her, shall I? Do! replied Ebony,

Once James came back with Esha they were just in time to "catch the bus" home. When they got home they all went straight to bed.

The Library Thieves and The Book Worm

Once upon a time, there was a girl called Edith, a girl called Elsie and a boy called Isaac. It all started when we dropped Isaac off at the Barbers with Daddy. We dropped them off and drove to the library. But when we got there, it was closed!......
What? Why? How? When?! It was normally open on Sundays, so me and Elsie went to investigate.....suddenly, we saw 2 people!
They were behind the library, by the back door, dressed in dark clothes wearing robber masks!! We looked down and noticed they had a bookworm in their hands and they were giving all the books from the library to the bookworm to eat!!! Immediately we shouted at Mummy to help and call the Police!
We felt very brave and ran towards them and managed to catch a photo of the thieves on my camera. It was so close, but me and Elsie just seemed to manage.
Mummy called the Police...neeh noor, neeh noor, and they came.
We met Daddy and Isaac at the Barbers and told them about the close call with Library Thieves and the Book Worm.
Then, suddenly, we turned around and saw the Police letting them all go! So, we quickly ran towards them and asked politely to not let them go. We explained what we had seen the Thieves doing in the Library with all of the books and the book worm. The Police were shocked and arrested them immediately.

As we were driving home, we realised the Police had only caught the thieves, but not the book worm! We stopped the car and ran back to the library and found the bookworm outside eating a little girls' book! Elsie said, "Quick, grab it Edith! And put it in this box!" I bravely grabbed the book worm and put the wriggling worm in the box. We all got back into the car and Isaac said, "What are we going to do with the slimy wriggling thing?"
I had a long think about this and the idea suddenly poured into my head....That's it, I've got it, we shall keep it as a pet and train it to be good and not eat books anymore.
It was hard work training the worm, as it loved books so much. However, over time it learned to eat fruit and vegetables instead of the books and we taught him how to read the books. He now loves reading and books and hasn't eaten one since the day of the library incident.

A Girl Who Loved Tennis

There was a young girl called Ulrike. She was strolling through the woods when she saw something, something strange. Ulrike ran to grab it and then just ran home to show her mum and dad. When Ulrike showed mum and dad they replied that’s a tennis racket. Ulrike snatched the tennis racket and ran up to her bedroom. She hid it in her cupboard and instantly locked it! When Ulrike turned 11 she remembered what she did with the tennis racket and ran up her stairs into her bedroom to get it. Once she had got it, she ran downstairs. She was old enough to stay at the house on her own now so she started to play a bit of tennis against the window. She suddenly fell in love with tennis and it is quite a miracle because when Ulrike was 7 she hadn’t liked it. She kept playing until her mum and dad came back. When they came back, Ulrike hid the tennis racket and ball under the table until they left again. When they left again, she grabbed the racket and started playing again and again and again.

Every time Ulrike’s mum and dad came home they kept on seeing how strange Ulrike was acting and it was not normally like Ulrike to have done. One day they had had enough and asked Ulrike what was going on and she said I didn’t want you to know this but I instantly fell in love with tennis. Suddenly the tennis racket started to float in the air and Ulrike screamed f-f-floating tennis racket! The tennis racket also started to play tennis automatically so Ulrike’s parents said we must get it out of here! It was difficult to get the tennis racket out, Ulrike said, because it was flying all over the place but it’s out of the house now. After that when Ulrike turned 12 years old she kept thinking about the tennis racket and how it did all those magical things! One day when Ulrike’s dad was reading the newspaper and Ulrike was in her bedroom Ulrike heard her dad call her name. Once Ulrike’s dad had called Ulrike’s name Ulrike came bounding down the stairs to hear what her dad was going to tell her and he said look at this Ulrike in the newspaper it says where the tennis racket flew off to. Ok said Ulrike keep speeking well said Ulrike’s dad in the newspaper it says it was found lying on the grass just outside of Bukingam palace and now the king is playing tennis all day every day! Daisy's Crazy Day

Once upon a time, there was a chicken, a cow and a duck. They lived together on a farm. There was also a little girl who lived on the farm, called Daisy. Daisy used to have a family, with a mummy, daddy, brother and sister, but they had mysteriously disappeared 1 year ago. So, she had become best friends with the animals and lived with them instead.

One lovely day, Daisy was feeding the animals. The cow was feeling naughty, so he ran and charged towards Daisy! Just as the cow got to her, she jumped so high out of the way, she zoomed up into space and landed on the moon! The cow looked at Daisy flying in surprise and said "Oopps-a-daisy!"

When Daisy landed on the moon, she reached into her pocket and found a magical space helmet. She quickly put it on and began to explore.
After some time, she saw something strange....Aliens! They looked friendly, so Daisy went to say Hello. As she got closer, she saw something even stranger.....her lost family next to the Aliens!! Daisy was so happy to see her family, but also terrified at the same time. Her family explained that the cow had ran at them and they jumped out of the way and ended up on the moon! Daisy said, "No way, that happened to me too!" They all had a big cuddle as they missed each other so much. Daisy's family told her that they had been watching over her for the last year and were so proud of her.
They all said together, "Now, how do we get home??"

Daisy came up with a plan. She thought it would be a good idea to ask the Alien's for help. The Aliens ran away.....then they came back later carrying a house. This wasn't a normal house, this house turned into a spaceship!!!

The family all went into the house, made themselves comfortable for the journey home. Before they knew it, they were back on Earth.

They were back on the farm and saw the chicken, cow and the duck. The animals said "Sorry" and the family forgave them. They all had dinner together and then went to bed.
The next morning, Daisy woke up and went downstairs for breakfast. She saw her family and said "Wow, what a crazy day we had yesterday!" Her family looked at her in surprise, "What are you talking about Daisy?", she replied, "Yesterday, when I went to the moon and found you all. You were missing for a whole year!" Her mummy started to laugh and said "Daisy, you have some crazy dreams! You went to school yesterday and I was at work".

Daisy was very confused, but though it must have been a dream. She went outside to see the animals, looked at the cow, who looked back at her and winked. The End
